The Vixen View
I love a good barn. I love country, and I thoroughly enjoy nice folk. And so, I really love Stone Barn Ranch. Located in Placer County in the tiny hamlet of Sheridan, about 10 minutes from downtown Lincoln, California or 45 minutes from downtown Sacramento, is this lovely rustic slice of country pie. The wonderful stone foundation and wood framework to the barn is over 100 years old and the original cabin to the homestead still exists. The views from the knoll with rolling hills surrounding the ranch are incredible, with perfect photo ops for the sunset or the light shining onto the barn. One could sit and watch the world go by very easily. Thoughtfully placed trees have been planted to help shade and block a bit of that western setting sun, and the trees encircle the large lawn area giving a cozy feel. Strands of market lights anchored to the perimeter trees give a romantic glow to outdoor dining. Always present is that very cool historic barn which is the perfect backdrop as well as gathering place for dancing, or creating a lounge area. Imagine blankets over bails of hay for comfy seating? A buffet could be set up in the barn and also a wedding cake or dessert table can be positioned to reflect off the large mirror hanging from the old barnwood.
As guests arrive from the well laid out dirt parking area, they can be greeted at the wooden outbuilding with a cold glass of lemonade, or pick up water or bottle of beer from the old fashioned bathtub. It really doesn’t get any better! For weddings, a separate area for the ceremony is available, with a perfect wooden ceremonial arch framework. This can be decorated as you wish. A huge tall Eucalyptus tree, borders this area, and new plantings of pretty Crepe Myrtle trees are opposite. Grapevines grow and entwine around a wooden split-rail fence separating the ceremony area from the dining lawn.
No kitchen is available, but this isn’t a problem for an experienced, professional off-site caterer. Water and electricity is on site. Tons of easy parking and good ambient lighting is around the grounds. It would be best if the ladies wore flat shoes as one is out in the country! A simple flushing portable restroom is on site; of course the renter can make upgrades to the more luxurious portable party restrooms, if desired.
For parties or other dinners, there is plenty of room for entertaining kids with lawn games such as badminton, croquet, or tossing a ball around. Stone Barn Ranch is relaxed and fun, yet beautiful and majestic.
The Vixens, along with Visiting Vixens, Allison Stahl of Allison Stahl Photography and Anna Hernandez of Whitebird Ceremonial Dove Releases had the best evening, as we ate dinner al fresco prepared by Bev and her daughter, Emily. We sat at a lovely vintage farmhouse table on the reception lawn and enjoyed wine (always!), a wonderful salad made of fresh mixed greens, dried pears, cranberries and avocado, delicious soft Squaw bread, and homemade chicken noddle and vegetable soup. We ended our meal with a delicious ice cream topped apple crunch (from the trees on the property!) Oh Man! Again, it doesn’t get any better!
A very special thank you to Allison Stahl for taking these terrific photos!
