Dunbar House, a beautiful bed and breakfast inn, was built in 1880 and one of the early residential establishments in the town of Murphys, California, in the historic gold country of Calaveras County. Murphys is a charming and quaint destination town – just 2 hours from downtown Sacramento, and 2 ½ hours to San Francisco.
Dunbar House is perfectly situated in Murphys… just steps from Main Street and all the fun of the town. There are six unique rooms that have been thoughtfully decorated and each has its own charming personality. The house is surrounded by beautiful, old fashioned porches set with comfortable chairs (some rock!) for lounging and relaxing. Guests can take in the lovely landscaping of lush lawns, potted urns of seasonal flowers, and bushes of blooming hydrangea, azalea, wisteria, Japanese maple and peonies to name just a few. The feel of the property is old world, relaxing, charming and definitely takes one back to a simpler time.
Several areas on the Dunbar House property are perfect to set up special events. You can pick your spot based on the time of day or have a progressive event that uses all of the fantastic options. Weddings are ideal for Dunbar House as romance is a definite vibe. Corporate meetings or retreats also work very well. The Italian market lights that run across the open lawns are beautiful at night and the gardens surrounding the house are abundant, so minimal table décor is needed. To the side of the property is the “Green House,” a sweet white structure with a cobblestone patio in front, as well as French doors, white open ceiling beams, and paned windows. While being great for the bar, the interior can be used as a meeting room, or for a fun dance party; even as a rehearsal dinner location or Sunday brunch venue – there are many options and convenience and flexibility is important to the staff at Dunbar House. Adjacent to the Green House is an outdoor sitting area with a fire pit and space designed for a gleaming white tent complete with flooring and lighting (20×50′ tent is available for a separate reasonable fee.) To simplify your planning all of the tables, chairs, china and linen are included in the facility rental and catering can be selected from a small list of preferred caterers. They have structured the packages to be as inclusive and streamlined as possible.

Adding to the destination experience, there are caverns to explore, nearby golf courses, river rafting, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, and the Columbia Historic State Park. This gold country town is a must to visit and the Dunbar House is the place for your destination wedding or special event!
