We have heard of PlumpJack and regularly hear echos of ewws and ahhs following the reference.  We finally experienced it and now we are the ones who eww and ahh. You might not guess this hotel, restaurant and bar, and incredible wedding and event space, exists behind its subtle and non-pretentious exterior.  Enter through the main doors and your first thought might be, “have I come to a spa?”

The architecture and style of this property is “mountain elegance with a touch of Shakespearean chic!”  Classic and clean with old world charm, large boulders on the exterior, and finely chosen metalwork accents for the interior.  Each detail fits together perfectly and any event theme or style fits well within the space.

The gorgeous entry to PlumpJack Inn includes a glass surrounded fire lite bar and comfortably elegant  formal restaurant.  The bar and dining room can be rented for private and semi-private events for small-intimate gatherings of up to 60 guests.  Plan a day-after wedding brunch (included with room rental for all guests), or a small holiday party or reception in either of these two spaces.

There are a number of incredible features at PlumpJack.  For starters, the pool space which can be a beautiful wedding ceremony site or party area, is the perfect outdoor Tahoe social location (except for during a summer thunder storm of course!).  The patio has many rock outcroppings along with a wood fired oven.  This space is great for the cocktail portion of any gathering, and the view of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking. In renting PlumpJack, you receive the best of the indoor/outdoor feel and multiple space choices within one rental price.  There is even a secondary outdoor creekside ceremony location a few yards from the venue that is appealing to the nature lover with its view of the meadows and mountains. This is best sized for intimate affairs.  The banquet rooms are also well thought out spaces with the flow considered in each area.  The first and second floor banquet rooms are similar in size and inclusions.  Both offer portable bars, restrooms, a deck or patio just outside the entry doors, and formal entry spaces. The lower floor has built-in lighting that is rarely offered in ballroom spaces, but is a standard at PlumpJack, and there is an optional (additional expense) ceiling swag upgrade. The second story room needs nothing at all to dress the ceiling with its open wood beams and perfectly accented rustic chandeliers.  Both spaces can be split for meeting and event space or smaller events, but neither feels too large for an average sized event.

PlumpJack makes it easy to plan and host events at their site.  Things are simplified with a basic fee that includes multiple spaces, tables and chairs, beautiful wrought iron centerpieces, and much more.  There are even ‘shoulder season prices’ if you book in October, November, or December and into the spring months.  PlumpJack is the perfect destination event location where each guest can come and stay for the duration.  Outdoor activities for each season are just outside the front door!

Food and beverage is given their utmost attention and detail.  Choose from an array of specialty cocktails (such as the PlumpJack Alexander with Ameretto, Stoli vanilla, Korbel brandy, spiced simple syrup, cream and nutmeg – yummmmm), or offer a wine pairing dinner, or to make things really easy, offer a plated meal without requiring a pre-order from your guests.  The Vixens were royally treated to the most delicious dinner… excellent and unique flavor combinations, visually stunning and plentiful!   Look at the photos below where the butternut squash soup was poured table side, and check out that watermelon radish on the delish salad!  And the desserts were AMAZing!

The hotel side includes many special touches too.  They have 50 rooms and 7 suites, one of which includes a kitchenette suite that the groom and groomsmen love to have pre-wedding.  The rooms continue the Shakespearian feel with a romantic mountain touch.  Vixen Kendra would want me to comment on the incredible shampoo in each room – it’s called Mountain Breeze.  She remembers it’s fragrance a number of years after planning a wedding for her clients at PlumpJack.  I would have to agree it is memorable!  When hosting an event onsite, the staff is extremely accommodating with guest gift baskets and I would highly recommend offering a bottle of PlumpJack’s Cade Cabernet Sauvignon to each guest as a greeting. They will never forget this wine!

How to wrap up this review when I am already planning my next event there in my head?  I obviously love this place and look forward to my next visit.  Once you see the Vixen Values you will be 100% on board too.
