Charming. Homey. Convenient. Fun – back to Charming. The historic St. George Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is located in the quaint village of Volcano, California – which is situated in the Mother Lode Gold Rush Sierra Foothills area. The main attraction when visiting this Amador County town is the St. George Hotel. The three-story white building is prominent when entering town, with its lovely full length verandas begging for quiet time reading a book, sipping wine (many wineries in the region) or having your morning coffee; but let’s talk about fun and frivolity. Holding a social event at the St. George is ideal, in that guests can consider Volcano a destination location. The hotel and cottages on the grounds can accommodate many of your out of town guests with a fantastic dining room serving delicious lunches and dinners, plus the Whiskey Flat Saloon, which can be a central hub for gathering with your friends and mingling with the friendly locals.
Tucked back behind the St. George is a beautiful rambling garden just perfect for a wedding or summer party; beautiful oak trees shade the lush lawn, flowers are accented here and there, and a sweet wooden swing begs to be enjoyed. We appreciated how the incorporation of historic-rustic touches blended in with the garden party vibe. The convenience of having your hotel room just steps away is perfect for those wishing to really celebrate the occasion! Dancing under the night time sky with strands of market lights overhead is so romantic, but also know that there is the option to move the party inside to the charming hotel parlor. This room has gleaming hardwood floors, high beamed coffer ceiling, and a grand rock fireplace as a stunning focal piece. The Parlor may also be used for small intimate weddings or dinner celebrations.
The Vixens visited this community in the dead of winter, but the warmth of the beds, the hotel filled with lovely antiques, the great food and the welcoming attitude of the locals… especially Meghan, the Bar Manager at The Whiskey Flat Saloon, really made our visit special. Meghan shared with us that she was married at the St. George Hotel. We begged to see her wedding photos and have included a few from her personal collection in the Vixen View Gallery below. The photographer for the wedding was Amanda Mason with Pure Images Photography.
