Meadow Vista, Placer County, California

So true are the lyrics of the song … On a clear day, you can see forever. Yes you can at Winchester Country Club.  Perched on top of a hill within the foothills of the Sierra Nevada  Mountains is a magnificent venue with stunning views in all  directions.  From the ceremonial lawn, to the cocktail balcony, through the reception room windows, views of the snow capped mountains, gorgeous lush green fairways and the Sacramento Valley in the distance are all within sight.

The architecture of Winchester is classic – looking more English Manor House than the expected golf style country club.  The old world feel is prominent and design details are noticeable. Winchester Country Club is less than a one hour drive from downtown Sacramento, but high enough in elevation to feel as if you’re at an elegant mountain sanctuary.

If you desire to hold a wedding ceremony at Winchester, there is a beautiful lawn area for the service and then just steps away is an elevated cocktail balcony.  Wrought iron furniture and large market umbrellas adorn this space, which also has a handsome built-in fireplace (think cool mountain evenings and snuggling!) The beautiful dining room with lovely ceiling treatment, sideboards, and heavy wood furniture, with mix and match wood chairs has windows on three sides and the candlelight dances and reflections on those windows are lovely.  Or, if you prefer dinner al fresco, Winchester will arrange for a tent structure so that your reception can be enjoyed amongst the beauty and nature.  If you’re lucky, deer may roam the course during the twilight hours.

There is a second smaller reception room available that is on the third level with even higher views of the surroundings.  This is a unique room as it has interesting roof-line angles and shapes to the windows.  It’s fun and a bit more modern in style than the traditionally decorated lower level dining room.

The club is semi-private and the award-winning championship golf course is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr. project.  Finally, the Vixens want to point out that for a destination wedding, the wonderful little gold mining town of Auburn is quite nearby for a little tourist sightseeing and B&B accommodations, or a bit more of a drive, check out Grass Valley and Nevada City.
