Flowers of the Season {Part 1} ~ Fall
Last week the First Day of Fall was celebrated and we all love when the seasons change… especially in 2020, as there might be a glimmer of optimism, a rush of color, aromas (hello Pumpkin Lattes) and eventually a chill in the air. We asked our friends over at Strelitzia Flower Company (one of our Vixen Vendors) to provide us with some photos of their gorgeous design work for wedding flowers depicting this change in season. The designers at Strelitzia are top-notch, innovative, have great vision and imagination. When you plan for your 2021 or beyond wedding, reach out and have a good long chat; you’ll be happy you did!
We will be creating a blog post for each of the upcoming seasons. So, here are flower tips and photos of the beautiful season of Fall, starting with Part 1, the “personal” flowers (for the bride and the groom).
COLORS: Rich reds, fiery oranges and beautiful yellows mixed with brown, gold, green, amber and russet colors are the most popular combinations. But some alternatives are: Caramel and apricot ~ black, burgundy and purple ~ pumpkin, sage and blush ~ shades of purple ~ even black and white. However, the element that sets fall flowers apart from other seasons is the incorporation of TEXTURE, and that comes in the form of seasonal leaves, grasses, branches, seeds or grains (such as wheat, broom corn and millet.)

Above: In this bouquet, the colors are leaning toward the blush tones but include lots of texture in the way of broom corn, millet, astilbe and immature dates (cool!) The hanging golden-ish amaranthus and the cafe au lait dahlia give it a definite fall feel. Photo credit: Hailey Ayson
Above: And here is that classic orange, with shade of bronze and crimson flowers. Gerbera, protea and callas with the addition of autumnal wheat, grasses and grains…and do you see the tiny red peppers tucked in?
Above. Every boho wedding needs the ladies to wear autumnal head wreath/flower crowns! Those scabiosa pods are unique, along with the purple status.
And we can’t forget the men – here are three awesome boutonnieres, again using seasonal flowers – wheat, straw flower, rose and even tiny succulents. Fun!
Next blog post will cover autumnal table decor and alter design.
