Irish Blessings & Toasts
With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, we’re thinking of all the fun those Irish folk have at celebrating! While they may have a reputation for always having a good time, the Irish are also known for their way with words. In fact, many of the wedding poems, toasts and blessings you know and love are of Celtic descent. Irish wedding blessings and toasts are typically short but packed with emotion and impact. Perhaps you might want to incorporate one of these into your wedding day (either within the ceremony, or as a toast).
“May you have love that never ends,
lots of money, and lots of friends.
Health be yours, whatever you do,
and may God send many blessings to you!”
“May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
Slow to make enemies,
Quick to make friends,
But rich or poor, quick or slow,
May you know nothing but
Happiness from this day forward.”
“Here’s to you both, a beautiful pair
On the birthday of your love affair
Here’s to the husband and here’s to the wife
May yourselves be lovers for the rest of your life.”
“May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.”
