The Meaning of Flowers ~ {Series} LILY OF THE VALLEY
This fourth and final series installment in the Meaning of Flowers is on LILY OF THE VALLEY. Instead of basing your choices on flower color, consider the flower’s significance and meaning. This lovely flower symbolizes sweetness, purity of heart, trustworthiness, and humility. Lily of the Valley is said to bring luck in happiness and love, making it a favorite for weddings. However, due to its delicate nature and the fact that a small bunch of lilies are on the expensive side, Lily of the Valley is generally reserved for the bridal bouquet and groom’s boutonniere.
The most notable bride who incorporated Lily of the Valley is Kate Middleton for her wedding to Prince William. Her bouquet was a gorgeous, all-white arrangement. It featured hyacinth, lily of the valley, ivy, and the traditional sprig of myrtle. In addition, she added one flower called Sweet William. It can be assumed that she chose the latter because it shared her husband’s namesake. Each of the flowers had a specific meaning. Sweet William stands for gallantry, hyacinth marks the constancy of love, ivy stands for fidelity, friendship, and affection, and myrtle fittingly symbolizes marriage.
